Dr. Christine Dong Presents "Stroke Prevention"
HERMITAGE, Tenn., January 7, 2009 Christine Dong, M.D., neurologist, will present Stroke Prevention during a Summit Medical Center Lunch & Learn at Saddlebrook Senior Apartments on Monday, January 19 at 11:30 a.m. Dr. Dong will discuss how to reduce the risk of a stroke, types of stroke, and what steps to take if you have a stroke.
Symptoms of stroke are due to interruption of the blood supply to part of your brain. They occur suddenly and differ depending on the part of the brain affected. Multiple symptoms generally arise together because the artery that is blocked usually supplies a large enough area of the brain to include multiple functions. Anything your brain does may be affected.
The most common symptoms include weakness or numbness on one side of the body, blurry, dimming, or no vision, difficulty swallowing, talking, or comprehending others, dizziness, falling, or loss of balance, and severe or unusual headaches. If you notice any of these symptoms, it is critical that you call for emergency medical help immediately. Brain tissue dies quickly when deprived of oxygen, but there is a brief window of opportunity in which some of the damage can be reversed.
A light lunch will be provided at this free seminar, but space is limited and reservations are required. To make a reservation, simply call TriStar Medline at 615-342-1919. Saddlebrook Senior Apartments is located at 203 Carver Lane, Lebanon, TN 37087.
